PS Omollo slams Gachagua over illicit alcohol claims

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has refuted allegations made by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who claimed that the government is deliberately targeting the Mt. Kenya region with illicit alcohol.

Speaking during a church service in Nakuru, Gachagua’s comments were described by Omollo as politically motivated and lacking empathy for families affected by alcohol-related tragedies.

Omollo condemned Gachagua’s remarks, stating, “It is disingenuous for Mr. Gachagua, after serving at the highest office, to make such ludicrous claims about a sensitive issue that impacts families and lives.” He emphasized that the government neither produces nor distributes alcoholic beverages and accused Gachagua of trivializing a grave national concern.

The Principal Secretary urged Gachagua to provide evidence of his claims to investigative agencies if his intention is genuinely to protect Kenyans from the dangers of illicit alcohol. He also called on all citizens to unite in safeguarding their communities and protecting children from harmful substances, especially during the festive season.

Omollo’s strong rebuttal highlights the government’s commitment to addressing the issue of illicit alcohol while dismissing what he termed as inflammatory statements that could exacerbate public concerns.
