President William Ruto has criticized impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly attempting to sow discord among Kenyans along ethnic lines, asserting that such efforts will ultimately be futile.
Since his removal from office, Gachagua has consistently challenged the Kenya Kwanza government, while simultaneously engaging in a charm offensive in the Mt. Kenya region as he positions himself for the 2027 elections. His actions appear aimed at undermining President Ruto’s influence and consolidating his own political base ahead of the upcoming polls.
While addressing a gathering in Luanda, Vihiga County, on Wednesday, President Ruto remarked that some of his prominent political adversaries had previously served under his leadership but were removed from their positions due to incompetence—a veiled reference likely aimed at Gachagua.
Additionally, during a roadside rally in Kakamega County on Monday, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi urged Gachagua to temper his criticisms of the government and redirect his focus towards advancing his professional interests. Mudavadi emphasized the importance of Kenyans supporting the Kenya Kwanza development agenda and rejecting divisive rhetoric from those unlikely to secure elective positions.
“If someone has been mourning, that period is over. Kenya must move on. We cannot let the country stagnate while listening to grievances every other day. Our focus must be on developing the nation, and that is the direction President Ruto is steering us towards,” Mudavadi stated.
He also pointed out that according to the law, an individual who has been impeached cannot hold any public office, not even that of a village elder (nyumba kumi).
As political tensions continue to rise, the focus remains on uniting Kenyans and advancing a collective vision for the country’s future.
