Police disperse Raila’s birthday celebration in Nairobi

Police have today dispersed Raila Odinga’s supporters as they celebrated the Azimio supremo’s birthday at the heart of Nairobi city.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader was celebrating his 79th birthday today.

However, the Nairobi police Adamson Bungei said that the youth who had gathered near Tom Mboya statue to cut the cake hadn’t got any licence from the Nairobi police boss, to hold the meeting.

The meeting forced the police to lob teargas at the group in order to disperse them. One of the ladies (who was in blue dress – symbolising Azimio colours) who were embroiled in the fracas was seen pleading with the law enforcers to allow her go and pick the cake which was being cut.

Earlier, the ODM party leader had announced that there would be cake-cutting ceremonies across the country at 3:00 pm on Sunday.

The ODM leader had said that he would celebrate his birthday with children from eight children’s homes in Malindi. The celebration took place at the Malindi Orphanage, in Malindi town.

Raila also dedicated his birthday to the liberation of the children and people of Palestine.
