In a swift response to a series of robbery incidents targeting motorists on the Southern Bypass, a coordinated effort by the Regional Criminal Investigations Officer and officers from DCI Lang’ata and DCI Dagoretti has led to the arrest of a suspect identified as Martin Otieno.
The initiative involved increased patrols in the area, which proved effective when officers were alerted to a loud crash. They discovered that a Volkswagen, registered KYW 690, had collided with a large stone placed in the road to obstruct traffic. A family inside the vehicle recounted their frightening experience: after hitting the stone, Otieno emerged from a nearby thicket and confronted them, demanding their valuables.
Thanks to the prompt action of the patrolling officers, Otieno was pursued into the thicket and apprehended shortly after the incident. He is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, January 6, 2025.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to enhance safety on Nairobi’s roads and combat rising crime. The authorities urge motorists to remain vigilant while traveling along the Southern Bypass and to report any suspicious activities immediately.
