Orengo appoints William Oduol as Siaya running mate

Siaya Senator James Orengo has appointed former candidate in the 2013 gubernatorial elections Mr. William Oduol Denge as his running mate in the 9th August 2022 elections.

In a letter to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board dated May 10, 2022, Orengo said “I have nominated Mr William Odhiambo Oduol as my running mate for the seat of the deputy governor in the General Election to be held on August 9 following my nomination by the ODM party to contest for the seat of governor, Siaya County. His details are as follow..,”

Orengo was expected to choose either Mr. Oduol or Dr Kevin Osuri-former Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Nyanza secretary-general who had given up his ambition to run for Alego Usonga parliamentary seat in exchange for consideration for Siaya county Deputy Governor.

Oduol who is the Regional President of Multinational technology and marketing firm Gorilla Corporation vied for Siaya gubernatorial seat in 2013 losing to the current governor Cornell Rasanga. He then successfully petitioned Rasanga’s win claiming unfair intimidation by the ODM party which led to a by-election. He however went on to lose the by-election to Rasanga who went on win again in 2017 and is serving out his second term.

The Orengo-Oduol ticket will be squaring out with former Rarieda MP Odero Gumbo who has teamed up with former police spokesman Charles Owino on the United Democratic Movement ticket.
