The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party Siaya County branch has expelled the embattled Siaya Governor William Oduol over his ongoing wrangles with Governor James Orengo.
This was announced by Siaya’s Organising Secretary Walter Okello after a meeting with delegates who said that the party has resolved to part ways with Oduol over disloyalty.
“This meeting has unanimously resolved that the Siaya County Deputy Governor be compelled to rewsign from his position since he no longer subscribes to the ideals and aspirations of the party. The meeting has resolved that he be expelled, and is hereby expelled,” read a statement from the party.
The meeting attended by Siaya Governor James Orengo also resorted to filling other party positions, where office bearers have decamped to UDA. The decision came after an order from ODM’s Secretary for Political Affairs Opiyo Wandayi, who called on the Deputy Governor to resign over his ‘evidently toxic relationship’ with Governor James Orengo.
Teh Ugunja legislator had said the ongoing stalemate has the potential of interfering with the county’s proper functioning, adding that quality service delivery cannot be guaranteed. “Hon. Oduol should tender his resignation without any further delay. This would then create room for Hon. Orengo to appoint a replacement with whom he can harmoniously steer the County Government of Siaya,” he said.
In other developments, the Siaya County Assembly resolved to impeach the Deputy Governor for abuse of power in a bill proposed by Asembo East ward representative Gordon Onguuru.
