Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya blasted the government’s affordable housing plan. He claims it fails to meet the real needs of everyday people in his county.
Natembeya shared his views on X last Friday, January 17, 2025. He noted that locals worry more about jobs and income than housing tied to forced paycheck cuts.
Youth face tough times finding work. The governor urged focus on lasting jobs over housing fees. Industries, he said, would help people earn wages and buy homes on their own. No need for government-led schemes.
People in Trans Nzoia know their priorities. They reject unfair or flawed policies.
“People here in Trans Nzoia want no part in affordable housing. We need industries. Bring factories to hire our kids. Set up industries for jobs so folks can build their own homes,” Natembeya said.
He challenged the housing levy. Why force salaried workers to pay now but buy houses later?
Natembeya also hit new funds with vague rules. Even MPs lack details on how they run. Reports show sales of state firms feed money into these funds. They dodge audits by the auditor general.
Such opacity erodes public trust. It risks waste of national cash.
“They call this an infrastructure fund too. MPs don’t even know how it works. Parastatals get sold, and cash flows to funds beyond auditor general checks,” Natembeya added.
