Maryam Mwakitawa continued her impressive performance at the NCBA Invitational tournament held at Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi, maintaining her position at the top of the leaderboard in the girls’ 15-18 years category on Sunday.
After finishing the first round with a score of five over par 79, Mwakitawa significantly improved her game in the second round, achieving an impressive two over par 74—the best score of the day. “Today I fought really hard, and I believe it came out really well. It was a good two days,” Mwakitawa reflected on her performance.
In the boys’ 13-14 years category, Shashwat Harish emerged as the frontrunner, once again shooting a solid two under par 70 in the second round. This mirrors his performance in the first round, bringing his total score to four under par 140 as he heads into the final round. “Though the scores are the same, my experience on the course was different. Yesterday felt like a two under that could have easily been five or four under because I struck the ball well. Today, I experienced some swings that didn’t go as planned, which is part of the game,” Harish explained.
The NCBA Invitational has drawn over 116 golfers from ten countries across Asia, Africa, and Europe. This three-day tournament is set to conclude on Monday.
This event is particularly significant, as it contributes to order of merit points for both non-handicapped and handicapped boys and girls aged 15-18 within the Kenyan Junior Golf Foundation system for the year 2024. Additionally, participants will earn World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points, further enhancing the tournament’s importance for junior golfers.
