Luo Leaders Vow to Uphold Raila’s Legacy Through Ruto Alliance

Senior Luo leaders have reaffirmed their commitment to continue working with President William Ruto’s government, saying it was part of the late Raila Odinga’s final wish for unity and national cooperation.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the community must honour Raila’s decision to join hands with Ruto through the March 7, 2025, memorandum of understanding. Speaking in a local television interview on Saturday, October 18, 2025, Omollo noted that the partnership was a product of Raila’s wisdom and political foresight.

“We must respect what Raila stood for. He believed in dialogue, unity, and progress. As a community, we are in government because of him, and we are not walking away from that path,” Omollo said.

He thanked President Ruto for granting the former Prime Minister full state honours, saying the gesture demonstrated a deep sense of respect between the two leaders.

Omollo’s sentiments were shared by Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, who maintained that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) would remain a firm partner in the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Raila left us in the hands of President Ruto, and that is where we shall remain. We are confident that our community is safe and respected under this partnership,” Wandayi said during a press briefing on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The CS also praised ODM’s decision to appoint Dr. Oburu Oginga as acting party leader, calling it a wise move that would ensure continuity and stability within the party.

“After Baba’s burial, I’ll propose that ODM holds a National Delegates Convention to formally endorse Dr. Oburu as our party leader. It’s the best way to keep Raila’s vision alive,” he added.

The growing consensus among Luo leaders signals a major political realignment, as the region looks to preserve Raila Odinga’s legacy through continued cooperation with President Ruto’s government.
