Kenya has again been crowned the World’s Leading Safari Destination by World Travel Awards (WTA), further cementing her position as the global champion.
The announcement was made during the 27th Annual World Travel Awards Grand Final 2020, held to celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global travel and tourism industry.
It is the seventh time in the past eight years and sixth time in a row that Kenya has won the prestigious annual global award, having in the past won the in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Chairman, Jimi Kariuki lauded the win as yet another milestone for Kenya’s tourism industry adding that it was testament to the country’s superiority in the Safari experience.
“This victory is an endorsement of the destination Kenta as home of authentic African Safari. We shall continue with our commitment to preserving our unique wildlife heritage for the sake of generations to come,” he said
He noted that the 2020 recognition was particularly special as global tourism has been badly compromised by the universal Covid-19 Pandemic. “Despite there being less travel into the country, destination Kenya has won three global awards this year which are Africa’s Leading Golf destination,Africa’s Leading Tourist destination and now World Leading Safari destination,” observed Mr Kariuki.
KTB Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dr Betty Radier said the win came at the right time when the country was seeking to bounce back to life. She said the awards had helped cement Kenya’s top position in global tourism.
“This is a motivator for us to keep on improving our offerings in other areas like Beach and experiences,’’ said Radier.
The award comes barely three weeks after Kenya scooped top continental awards in the inaugural Africa Winners Day, at the World Travel Awards, earning recognition as Africa’s Leading Tourist Destination with Nairobi being voted as Africa’s Leading Business Travel Destination. KTB was declared Africa’s Leading Tourism Board.
Kenya earlier scooped Africa’s Best Golfing Destination ward during the seventh Annual World Golf Awards held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
