Dr Ida Odinga, the widow of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has expressed deep gratitude to Royal Media Services chairman Dr. Samuel Kamau Macharia for his unwavering friendship and support to the Odinga family over the years.
Speaking during a family gathering, Ida reflected on the long relationship that dates back to the early 1990s. She recalled how SK Macharia reached out to her during one of the most difficult moments in her life.
“Our relationship with SK goes back a long way,” Ida said. “In March 1992, when I was sacked for the second time, the very first person who called and offered me encouragement was this man standing here with me, SK Macharia. He has stood with us ever since, and for that, I sincerely thank him on behalf of the Odinga family.”
Her emotional recollection offered a glimpse into the strong personal bond between the two families, forged long before Macharia’s rise as a media magnate and the Odingas’ prominence in national politics.
Ida was speaking when the media mogul paid the family a visit just days after Raila’s burial at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi, in Bondo, Siaya County. Among those who were in the company of SK Macharia was Siaya governor James Orengo, and Homabay governor Gladys Wanga.
Those in attendance applauded her remarks, acknowledging SK Macharia’s consistent presence and loyalty through the Odingas’ political and personal journeys. Ida’s words also served as a reminder of the power of true friendship and the people who quietly stand behind public figures during challenging times.
