How Juja MP Koimburi used his CDF Chairman to abduct himself

In a surprising turn of events, the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have revealed that Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi allegedly staged his own abduction to serve political interests.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Amin Mohamed disclosed this during a press briefing at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road. They explained that investigations into the incident, which initially raised concerns of a forceful abduction, uncovered inconsistencies and gaps that suggest the entire episode was orchestrated.

According to Mohamed, police officers tracked MP Koimburi’s movements closely until he was located at a coffee plantation in Juja. He added, “We were able to verify all his movements from church attendance to where he spent the night, including identifying the hotel and room number.” Mohamed further questioned why the MP, a known supporter of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, would go to such lengths to fake an abduction, thereby risking political tension in the country.

The police boss also expressed doubts about the circumstances surrounding the incident, noting that the suspects they interrogated were not allowed to question Koimburi while he was hospitalized, which raised further suspicion.

Through the questioning of key suspects — including Peter Kiratu (Juja CDF chairman), Cyrus Kieru Muhia, and Karanja Gatana — investigators identified the Subaru Forester vehicle allegedly used in the staged abduction. Muhia, who owns a supermarket in Kahawa West, recounted that on May 24, he was contacted by Kiratu to provide his Subaru for additional security during a church service in Mugutha.

On May 25, Kiratu reportedly instructed Muhia to go to his homestead in Mugutha, where he met a man named Gatana, who was driving Kiratu’s Honda CRV along with three unidentified men. The suspects then proceeded to the church to familiarize themselves with the route before returning.

Police reports indicate that later, Kiratu called Muhia and asked him to drive the Subaru Forester with two men towards the church area. When they arrived, the two men quickly exited the vehicle, and Muhia reportedly heard screams as the MP was forced into the car. The vehicle then drove towards Jacaranda Coffee Research via Kambogo Road, stopping near Kiratu’s Honda CRV. Muhia was left with two men, who warned him not to disclose any information to the authorities.

The police have assured the public that they will take appropriate action against MP Koimburi once investigations are complete. For now, the incident has sparked widespread discussions about political maneuvers and the safety of public officials in the region.
