Homabay combined win Eliud Owalo Super Cup tournament

Homabay combined overcame Kisumu combined to clinch the inaugural Eliud Owalo Super Cup tournament played Kisumu.

The match ended in a stalemate during the regulation time, and was forced to move to post match penalties. Homabay combined would then beat Kisumu combined on post match penalties 4-2 to emerge as the winners.

Eliud Owalo Super Cup tournament was organised by Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Information and Technology Mr Eliud Owalo’s Eliud Owalo Foundation. The tournament organised by the Cabinet Secretary has provide youth with opportunity to showcase their talents and potential in soccer.

He said the initiative aims to revamp football standards among youth in line with the Kenya Kwanza Government agenda.

“The tournament is a response to the declining soccer standards in the region and the growing vulnerability of youth to issues such as drug abuse, alcoholism, crime, and immorality,” said the CS.

Owalo said the event provides a vital avenue for youth engagement, character building, income generation, and the creation of new opportunities.

Winners – Homabay combined – will now face-off with Kenya Premier League heavyweights Gor Mahia, in a friendly match at Nyilima grounds in Rarieda, in Siaya County, on Saturday.

The winners of the tournament, Homabay combined, took home Sh.400,000, while runners-up settled for Sh.300,000. Siaya combined, which had earlier beat Migori combined in third place play offs, went home with 200,000 as Migori combined took home a paltry Ks.100,000.
