Government Spokesman Mwaura vows abductions will be tackled

Government Spokesman Isaac Mwaura has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to addressing the surge in abductions and extrajudicial killings across the country. Speaking during an event in Illula, Ainabkoi, Uasin Gishu County, Mwaura assured Kenyans that those responsible for the crimes would be apprehended and prosecuted.

“The government is fully committed to ending these abductions. We will ensure that all culpable individuals face the full force of the law,” Mwaura stated. He urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by volunteering information through the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to help uncover the truth and prevent false accusations fueled by political motives.

Mwaura also criticized Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi for publicly calling out President William Ruto over the rising cases of abductions and extrajudicial killings. He emphasized that Muturi, as a senior government official, has direct access to the president and should have raised his concerns through internal channels rather than addressing the media.

Muturi’s remarks came during a press briefing at City Mortuary on Friday, where the bodies of two out of four young men abducted in Mlolongo were discovered. The CS expressed deep outrage over the continued disappearances and killings of Kenyan youths, describing the situation as “murder most foul.”

“This is a grave matter that demands immediate attention. The country must set aside all other issues to address these abductions and extrajudicial killings,” Muturi said. He questioned the government’s priorities, asking, “If we are killing and abducting young people, who are we building the economy for?”

Muturi lamented the normalization of extrajudicial killings and stressed the government’s responsibility to protect its citizens rather than oversee their deaths. He reminded the public that President Ruto had pledged to end forced disappearances during his campaign, yet the problem persists.

The growing outcry over abductions and extrajudicial killings has sparked widespread concern among Kenyans, with many calling for urgent action to restore security and justice.
