Gohil Promises Sweeping Changes at Cricket Kenya After Decisive Victory

Newly elected Cricket Kenya chairman Ashwin Gohil has pledged sweeping reforms following a decisive election victory on Sunday, vowing to restore governance, financial accountability, and player welfare to the troubled federation.

Gohil, alongside vice chairperson Perlyne Omamo, assumed leadership after long-delayed polls finally took place at Ruaraka Sports Club. The election had been held up by a series of court battles, but multiple petitions were dismissed, clearing the way for what stakeholders hope will be a turning point for Kenyan cricket.

Speaking after his victory, Gohil made governance his top priority. He revealed plans to investigate alleged misappropriation of funds and promised to hold those responsible accountable. He also called for an end to the constant legal disputes that have crippled the federation’s progress.

“This is really a dream team,” Gohil said. “During the first 100 days, we are going to address the governing of the federation first. Apart from that, I will look at the financial part to investigate cases of misappropriated funds, find the culprits, and make sure the issue is sorted out once and for all.”

Player welfare also featured prominently in his early plans. Acknowledging longstanding complaints over unpaid dues, Gohil pledged to prioritize remuneration to boost morale and performance.

“Most importantly, I want to make sure the players are motivated because they have not been paid for long,” he said. “When we start remunerating them, I will be very happy. We are sure the players will also be happy and start training hard. Let’s get back to the field now—no more court cases.”

The election delivered a largely unified leadership. Gohil won the chairmanship with 38 votes, defeating former captain Tom Tikolo. Omamo was elected unopposed. Other key positions were filled with clear mandates, reflecting a strong desire among delegates for stability and cohesion.

With the new leadership team now in place, attention shifts to delivering on these ambitious promises. For a federation long plagued by infighting and financial troubles, the real test begins now.
