Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President of Kenya extended his congratulations to Raila Odinga following his commendable second-place finish in the recent African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship election held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Despite their political rivalry, Gachagua acknowledged Odinga’s resilience and dedication to both Kenya and the African continent.
In a heartfelt statement, Gachagua expressed, “Baba Raila Odinga, you put on a brave fight, elicited energy, resilience, and the indefatigable Lion of Africa.” He commended Odinga for holding the Kenyan flag high in what he described as a “hotly contested seat,” emphasizing that the outcome did not diminish Odinga’s leadership stature.
Gachagua further noted, “You did not lose; the majority had their way. The African and the Kenyan spirit lives on.” He highlighted Odinga’s second-place finish as a symbol of “Kenyan optimism and great hope in the continent and the World.”
Reflecting on the significance of Odinga’s bid, Gachagua stated, “Africa needed you most, but God, in His own wisdom, found that Kenya, your motherland, and indeed, we Kenyans, your beloved brothers and sisters, have unfinished business with you as their coveted son as we unshackle our country from recklessness.”
The former deputy president’s message underscored the importance of unity and perseverance in the face of political challenges. “In any case, the outcome at the AU doesn’t, in any way, undermine your leadership and your energy to fix our Nation,” he added, signaling a call for collaboration in overcoming Kenya’s pressing issues.
Gachagua concluded his message with a warm welcome back to Odinga, stating, “Welcome back home, our son Raila Odinga, with your head held high; East or West, home is the best.” He reassured Odinga that his efforts had not gone unnoticed, stating, “Take heart, you did Kenya proud.”
As Odinga returns to Kenya, his supporters and political allies are rallying behind him, emphasizing the importance of continued advocacy for the nation’s development and unity. Gachagua’s unexpected gesture of goodwill may signal a potential thawing of relations between the two political figures, fostering a spirit of collaboration in the pursuit of a better future for Kenya.
