Former journalist Philip Ochieng’s daughter dies in the US

A Kenyan woman living in the US Juliette Akinyi Ochieng was found dead in her apartment in Dallas, Texas after missing for several days. The body of Akinyi who was the daughter of former Nation journalist the late Philip Ochieng was discovered on March 14, after being reported missing for several days.

The late Akinyi was born to an American mother and a Kenyan father, but her parents divorced when she was young, leaving her to be raised by her maternal relatives.

According to her brother Okello Ochieng, the family was still in shock over the news, revealing she had called sometime back unwell. “She had earlier called and complained of mild stroke but later told us she was okay,” he said. Janet Akinyi was born in Kenya and came to US about 15 years ago.

The late Akinyi was a retired United States Air Force/USAFR non-commissioned officer, a freelance writer and a former Social Media Consultant for a publishing company. She is also the author of the book “Tale of the Tigers” which she described as her first novel.
