CS Muturi Vows not to attend President Ruto’s Cabinet meetings

Public Service and Human Capital Development Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has taken a firm stand against what he describes as the government’s failure to address abductions and extrajudicial killings. In a bold move, Muturi has vowed not to attend any Cabinet meetings until these concerns are formally discussed at the highest level of government.

Speaking on the matter, Muturi revealed that he had officially informed President William Ruto of his decision, insisting that he would only return to the Cabinet meetings once the issue is tabled for deliberation. While acknowledging the importance of the sessions, the CS expressed his unwillingness to participate in an executive body that seemingly overlooks critical human rights concerns.

“The Cabinet is the country’s top decision-making organ, and its key commitment should be to address pressing issues affecting citizens. I have formally requested to be excused from these meetings until the issue of abductions and extrajudicial killings is presented through a Cabinet memorandum,” Muturi stated.

Despite skipping the meetings, the CS assured the public that he remains fully engaged in the affairs of his ministry. He also declared that he was prepared to face the consequences of his stance, including possible dismissal, if it meant standing against state-sponsored abductions.

Muturi has been vocal in criticizing the government’s handling of forced disappearances. He previously alleged that the abductions of individuals perceived as government critics were orchestrated by senior state operatives. His claims gained further weight after he went public with a dossier detailing the abduction of his own son, Leslie Muturi, in June 2024. According to the CS, the operation was sanctioned by National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji.

Muturi’s defiant position adds to the growing concerns over human rights violations, as pressure mounts on the government to address the alarming trend of enforced disappearances.
