Central Organisation of Trade Union boss Francis Atwoli has asked Kenyans to let President William Ruto build the economy, in line with his campaign message.
The workers’ Union secretary general rubbished off complaints by Kenyans on the cost of living, by blaming the government for the current situation. Atwoli instead said that President William Ruto had categorically stated during his campaign time that Kenyans would come together to build up the economy.
“Even currently, people are complaining of the high cost of living, price of things has gone up, oh we voted for this government but better William Samoei Ruto. He was very clear when he was campaigning. He told you wewe mama mboga, wewe mtu wa boda boda and everybody that this government will build with you,” he said.
“Sasa ukiambiwa leta mbao, leta jembe, let vitu tujenge hii serikali unarudi nyuma unasema heri tungepigia Raila Odinga. (When you are told to bring wood and a plow to help build the country, you go back and start saying you should have voted for Raila Odinga)”
The current messages being attributed to the Central Organisation of Trade Union (COTU) boss are rather surprising because Mr Atwoli was one of the harshest critics of William Ruto when presidential campaigns were at a fever pitch last year. Atwoli is remembered to have vowed that Ruto would not be President of Kenya.
The COTU boss was a stalwart figure behind Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga. He has since changed camps, and is now seen as the greatest of supporters of President William Ruto.
