Two police officers from Kaptagat were arrested on Tuesday after being caught slaughtering one of three missing cows reported by local resident Josphine Kandie. Officers Chrispus Butali and Samuel Mbugua were discovered at the scene where the cow had been butchered, prompting outrage among community members.
Kandie had initially reported her cows missing when she received information that one had been slaughtered at the police station. To her shock, the butchered cow belonged to her. This revelation led irate residents to storm the Kaptagat police station, demanding the officers produce all missing cows, dead or alive. The situation escalated, and the officers struggled to restore order amid the mounting anger.
The incident sparked widespread condemnation on social media, with Kenyans expressing their frustration over the officers’ actions. Comments included, “Imagine a public servant stealing cows while they have salaries. What about those hustling without?” and “Looks like the Kaptagat officers took ‘protect and serve’ literally and decided to serve themselves meat.”
Critics labelled the police station a “den of criminals disguised as police officers,” while some suggested that mental health issues may have motivated such behavior. As the investigation unfolds, the community is left questioning the integrity of those sworn to protect them.
