Uhuru Urges Mt Kenya Residents to Forgive, Unite Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged residents of the Mt Kenya region to embrace forgiveness, unity and reconciliation ahead of the 2027 General Election, calling on them to put aside political differences and focus on the future.

Uhuru made the remarks during a phone conversation with Kameme FM presenter Muthoni wa Kirumba, who called him on air to wish him a happy birthday.

During the conversation, the former Head of State said he had forgiven Mt Kenya residents for not following his political advice during the 2022 General Election. He urged the community to learn from past mistakes rather than allow them to create further divisions.

“I have forgiven everyone, and we must move forward. Making the first mistake isn’t bad; the mistake is repeating it. Kenya is bigger than everyone, including me,” Uhuru said.

He emphasised that love, mutual respect and unity remained essential to the region’s progress, warning against political hostility that could divide residents.

Uhuru also appealed to Mt Kenya residents to stop insulting one another because of their political affiliations, urging them to engage in respectful discussions despite their differences.

His message comes as political leaders and competing factions in the Mt Kenya region position themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the community’s political direction remaining a subject of national discussion.

Beyond the region, Uhuru called on Kenyans from all parts of the country to work together, promote peaceful coexistence and prioritise national unity.

The former president’s birthday message centred on forgiveness and the need for Kenyans to move beyond past political disagreements as the country approaches another election cycle.
