On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, President William Ruto awarded Kamagambo University a Letter of Interim Authority, elevating the long-established Kamagambo Adventist Teachers’ College to the status of an autonomous private university.
This newly recognized institution will operate under the guidance of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which manages its affairs.
The award occurred during Ruto’s developmental tour of the Nyanza region, where he engaged with stakeholders and held meetings at the Kisumu State Lodge.
Kamagambo University has now transitioned to an autonomous status, marking a significant milestone in its evolution from a teachers’ college. The Letter of Interim Authority empowers the institution to function as a university.
As Ruto continued his engagements in Nyanza, he participated in discussions with stakeholders and conducted a roundtable interaction with members of the media at the Kisumu State Lodge.
During this media roundtable, Ruto announced the establishment of a National Infrastructure Fund, along with the necessary legislation for its financing mechanism.
“We have successfully launched the National Infrastructure Fund, fulfilling my commitment from last year’s State of the Nation address. We have raised nearly three billion dollars, or Ksh320 billion, for this initiative,” Ruto stated.
He emphasized that the fund would prioritize transport, energy, and water infrastructure, identifying these areas as essential for Kenya’s long-term growth.
“In the energy sector, we currently have 3,300 megawatts of capacity. For a nation of our size, we are operating on the edge,” Ruto remarked, noting ambitious plans to significantly increase generation capacity.
“Our objective under the National Infrastructure Fund is to achieve 10,000 megawatts of energy generation within the next seven years,” the President declared.
Ruto connected the planned expansion in electricity generation to industrialization, manufacturing, technology, and job creation, particularly for the youth.
He highlighted that Kenya has the potential to enhance employment through agro-processing while gradually transitioning to a service-oriented economy, citing sectors like business process outsourcing, ICT, data centers, and other digital services.
“To create sufficient job opportunities for our youth, we must leverage agro-processing. Our agriculture sector can absorb many, but we must progressively shift towards a service economy,” he explained.
Ruto addressed concerns about the reliability of electricity in Nyanza, assuring that the government is fast-tracking transmission projects from Lessos through Bomet, with hopes of stabilizing power supply in the region by year-end.
“Once these two projects are completed, we anticipate stabilizing power in this region before the year concludes,” Ruto stated.
He also mentioned plans to generate between 2,000MW and 5,000MW in Siaya, affirming that transport infrastructure will remain a key focus under the National Infrastructure Fund.
Regarding road projects in Migori, Ruto announced the completion of contractor procurement for the long-awaited Migori Bridge.
“The residents of Migori can rest assured. We are committed to constructing the bridge along with improving all other roads,” he assured.
Ruto criticized the politics of marginalization and exclusion, advocating for development that benefits all regions of the country.
“It is imperative that we eliminate the politics of marginalization and exclusion,” he asserted.
He underscored that infrastructure investment is vital for industrialization and the adoption of emerging technologies.
“Without this investment, we cannot advance proper industrialization, embrace future technologies, or establish data centers,” Ruto concluded.
