Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro recently announced the addition of 28 current, former, and aspiring leaders to the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK). This announcement follows his recent leadership transition and the party’s alignment with the opposition.
In a post shared on X on Thursday, August 20, 2026, Nyoro highlighted the party’s commitment to expanding its influence nationwide. “The People’s Party continues to grow across the country. Today, we welcome a diverse group of sitting, former, and aspiring leaders into our ranks,” he stated.
Nyoro extended a warm welcome to the newcomers, saying, “Karibuni sana Waheshimiwa.” The group includes current MCAs, MCA aspirants, parliamentary aspirants, and other political figures, predominantly from Murang’a and Kiambu counties.
Notable new members include Galgalo Richard, an MCA aspirant for Sololo Ward in Marsabit County; Mahad Abdi, an MP aspirant for Mandera West; and Dr. Moses Maraka, an MCA aspirant for Chevaywa Ward in Kakamega County. Additionally, Naomi Gakenia, an MP aspirant for Gatanga, Anthony M. Maina, an MP aspirant for Mathioya, and Charles Kahoro, an MCA aspirant for Kangari Ward in Murang’a, have also joined PPK.
As Nyoro sets his sights on the 2027 presidential race, this recruitment marks a significant step in his political journey. Previously, he served as the chairperson of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee before leaving the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to join PPK. Nyoro, a key supporter of the Kenya Kwanza coalition during the 2022 General Election, has now aligned himself with the opposition.
He emphasized that his presidential aspirations should unite rather than divide opposition parties as they prepare for the upcoming election. “If our mothers, who seek good leadership to advance Kenya, recognize the hard work I’ve put in, especially in making schools in my constituency nearly free, will that pose a problem?” Nyoro asserted.
Nyoro has urged opposition leaders to reach a consensus on a single presidential candidate by August 2027 to prevent vote fragmentation. He expressed his willingness to collaborate with other opposition figures to establish a cohesive political platform ahead of the election, naming Justin Muturi, Rigathi Gachagua, Fred Matiang’i, Kalonzo Musyoka, and Edwin Sifuna as potential partners. Nyoro has invited these leaders to his gatherings and plans to attend their events, fostering trust and unity within the opposition.
He also intends to revisit areas where he campaigned for President William Ruto during the 2022 election, aiming to “remove the color and uproot the legs” of the wheelbarrow symbol in regions like Wajir and Mombasa. Nyoro remains open to supporting another presidential candidate if the opposition can agree on a unified flag bearer.
Among the latest entrants to PPK are sitting MCAs Naomi Maina of Ruchu Ward in Murang’a and Zacharia Macharia of Kiuu Ward in Kiambu, along with Winnie Wambui, Joseph Kibugi, Pius Njuguna, Beatrice Macharia, Evans Gichihia, and Gerishon Kahoro. This influx of members enriches the party with a blend of local and national political ambitions as parties gear up for the 2027 General Election.
