DCI Arrests Gang Linked to Violent Robberies in Migori

Sluthes from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have apprehended a gang responsible for a series of robberies in Migori County.

In a statement released on March 10, 2026, the DCI highlighted the terror this gang inflicted on unsuspecting residents through violent robberies. “For months, fear has gripped parts of Migori County as a ruthless gang shattered families and instilled constant anxiety in communities,” the DCI noted.

Investigations revealed a particularly chilling incident in Kehancha Chini, Kuria West Sub-County. On that tragic night, a businessman and his younger brother faced a nightmare when a four-man gang stormed their home. Armed with an assault rifle and crude weapons, the assailants demanded valuables, ultimately stealing Ksh20,000,000 from the young businessman. In a brutal act, one assailant shot him through the mouth, killing him instantly before the gang fled.

Officers from Kehancha Police Station and DCI Kuria West quickly responded, documenting the scene and transferring the body to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Further investigations revealed that this gang had executed multiple violent robberies across Migori County, particularly in Kuria West Division. One such incident occurred on November 3, 2025, when the gang attacked a home in the Namba Five area. After confronting the victim’s sister-in-law, the gang assaulted him and stole Ksh3,000 and Ksh49,000 from family members before escaping on a motorbike.

Just days later, on November 7, 2025, the gang targeted a sergeant with the Kenya Defence Forces at his home. The six assailants, armed with an AK-47 and blunt weapons, assaulted the couple before stealing Ksh10,000, a mobile phone, and the soldier’s identification card. Both the sergeant and his wife sustained serious injuries.

The gang continued their spree on November 10, 2025, robbing an M-Pesa shop in the Kobinto area, where they stole Ksh28,000 and a mobile phone from the shop owner.
