Kimani Ngunjiri, the former Bahati Member of Parliament, has stated that Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has demonstrated he has more robust political capabilities than his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, following his win of the Mbeere North seat for the United Democratic Alliance.
During a video shared on his pages on Friday, November 28, 2025, Ngunjiri praised Kindiki for UDA’s victory in the mini polls, stating that this now confirms the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua knows the true owner of the mountain, as he had previously claimed to be the kingpin.
The Mbeere North by-election, as described by Ngunjiri, pitted the current deputy president against the former deputy president, with Kindiki demonstrating that he has a strong local base in the mountain and a considerable support base despite being repeatedly dismissed by his predecessor.
“Despite the opposition, and despite people doubting that you even have a strong ground, that person who was saying he is the Mt Kenya leader should be ignored, because you have more powers than him, because you were able to prove your seat in Mbeere,” Ngunjiri stated.
The deputy president received high praise from him, who described him as the most diligent deputy president the country has ever had, surpassing even former presidents like Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi, and Uhuru Kenyatta, and noting that Kindiki has consistently promoted the government’s goals.
“Another notable figure is Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.” It’s evident that you possess the ability to lead. He stated that no deputy president has ever toured all 47 counties without visiting any constituency.
Denouncing violence
He subsequently denounced the violence that occurred in certain areas during the by-elections, stating that it was unjustifiable and that in the future, there is no necessity for bloodshed to demonstrate a political stance.
The IEBC also received praise for conducting credible elections, with the commission being likened to a testing ground for the upcoming 2027 general elections, having proven their ability to deliver a fair election.
They follow closely on the heels of the recently completed byelections.
In Mbeere North, Leonard Mathende of the UDA won by a narrow margin of 494 votes, securing 15,802 votes to Newton Kariuki of the DP’s 15,308.
