Nairobi Rivers Commission CEO dismissed over corruption

Brigadier (Rtd) Joseph Muracia has been dismissed as CEO of the Nairobi Rivers Commission, effective immediately, following serious allegations of gross misconduct, corruption, embezzlement, nepotism, and insubordination.

The decision to remove him was unanimously approved during a meeting chaired by former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru on Tuesday afternoon.

Muracia, who was appointed by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to lead the commission established by President William Ruto, has been accused of exploiting organizational weaknesses to misappropriate resources. Notably, Kshs. 200 million allocated for allowances has been poorly managed, with significant funds remaining unaccounted for.

Additional allegations include nepotism, as Muracia reportedly hired family members to work for the commission, prioritizing their salaries over those of other employees. His leadership style has been described as autocratic, characterized by insubordination and high-handedness, often employing derogatory language when interacting with fellow Commissioners and sidelining them in critical decision-making processes.

The dismissal of Muracia is seen as a crucial step in tackling corruption and reinforcing accountability within the Nairobi Rivers Commission. The government has committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the matter and recovering the misappropriated funds, ensuring that such mismanagement does not recur in the future.
