Matiang’i Sets Stage for 2027 Race Promises Early Grassroot Tour

Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i has signaled a strong return to national politics after announcing that he will begin early, countrywide grassroots engagements ahead of the 2027 presidential race. The former Interior Cabinet Secretary said he is ready to meet Kenyans “from village to village,” promising a hands-on approach that places ordinary citizens at the centre of his campaign.

Speaking on Monday, November 17, during a meeting with Jubilee delegates and local leaders at the party headquarters in Nairobi, Matiang’i outlined a plan that marks his first major political move since leaving government. He dismissed claims that he is detached from community issues, noting that his campaign will focus on everyday struggles faced by Kenyans.

Matiang’i took aim at President William Ruto’s administration, warning that weak management of essential sectors such as education and healthcare could trigger a rise in school dropout rates to 30% or higher. He argued that poor planning and frequent policy shifts are putting vulnerable families at risk and undermining the country’s long-term stability.

At the same time, the former CS urged Jubilee members to put unity at the forefront as the party tries to rebuild its national presence. He said internal wrangles and public disputes only weaken the party’s credibility, especially at a time when Kenyans are watching how political groups handle pressure and difference.

Matiang’i stressed that Jubilee must strengthen its structures before asking Kenyans to trust it again. He echoed former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s call for respectful and issue-based politics, insisting that personal insults and confrontational rhetoric have no place in the party’s identity.

He concluded by assuring Kenyans that his campaign will be grounded in discipline, respect, and collaboration. According to Matiang’i, the country needs a leadership style that listens, engages, and solves problems—rather than one that fuels conflict.
