Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has announced his intention to run for a final term in accordance with the club’s 2019 constitution.
Rachier asserts that he meets all the necessary conditions outlined in the constitution, which was utilized during the 2020 elections.
“Our constitution is explicit. It permits those who participated in and won the 2020 elections to seek a second four-year term. I will stand as a candidate for the top position,” Rachier stated.
Rachier raised concerns about the court’s directive to hold elections within 90 days, suggesting that this timeline could disrupt the current league schedule, as the season will still be in progress. “I approached the court to request a postponement of the election dates to June, allowing us to focus on our campaign for the 22nd title. The court’s ruling will be revealed on March 11,” he added.
Despite Rachier’s plans, the current club treasurer, Dolphina Odhiambo, has expressed her ambition to lead the club. She openly opposes Rachier’s bid for re-election. “I am not just vying; I am committed to contesting for the chairman’s seat. I invite any other contenders to join me at the ballot,” Odhiambo declared.
Rachier has held the chairmanship of Gor Mahia since his election in 2008 and has successfully won all subsequent elections during his tenure.
