Controversial Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has criticized deputy president Kithure Kindiki for assuming him during his recent visit to Nyeri county.
While addressing the press on Wednesday, Kahiga who has been a longtime political loyalist to the former impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua stated that it was unfortunate for Mr. Kindiki to bypass his office. He revealed that Mr. Kithure Kindiki was the one holding office now and that there was nothing wrong with working with him.
“The other day I saw the deputy president come to Nyeri. You know there are people who like chaos for nothing. My office is just here, and I was elected by the people. When such a visitor is coming, we should be given notice that the deputy president of Kenya appointed by president Ruto is coming so that we are aware. Since he is the one holding the position, we should be sent program so that we know where to fit.” He stated.
The governor added that he was desperate to meet Mr. Kithure Kindiki but his whereabouts were not clear because he traversed different sections of Nyeri county on that fateful day. He even admitted that he tried going rounds to trace the deputy president on that particular day, but all his efforts were futile.
“We were seated there and getting information that he is in Kieni, Aguthi, and imagine the governor is moving around to trace the deputy president. Is that right? is that justice?” Posed the governor.
Kahiga went ahead to call for respect to his office because both the county and national government exist with the sole mandate of serving the citizens who are not interested on the political happenings amongst leaders.
He urged Mr. Kindiki to involve him on board next time when he visits Nyeri by giving him program in advance so that he can be part and parcel of such a development tour. At the same time, the governor revealed that politics will come and they will choose which side to follow during the 2027 general elections.
Mutahi Kahiga has been an ardent supporter of the impeached deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and his latest call to be recognized by Mr. Kindiki shows his willingness to work with the new powerhouse.
