Kenyan content creator and prankster Vindee has finally come clean after days of online backlash over claims that he was part of American streamer IShowSpeed’s Kenya tour. The social media personality admitted that he deliberately misled the public, revealing that the entire episode was a carefully executed nationwide prank.
Vindee had trended for several days after confidently asserting that he was working closely with IShowSpeed’s team during the streamer’s highly anticipated visit to Kenya. His frequent updates, which included alleged details of Speed’s itinerary, celebrity meet-ups and planned activities, fueled excitement and convinced many that he had insider access.
However, doubts began to emerge when IShowSpeed arrived in Kenya on Sunday, January 11. While fans expected Vindee to be among the creators accompanying the streamer, he was notably absent from official engagements. His only visible interaction was a brief moment where he clung onto a moving vehicle to touch Speed as the streamer leaned out of a matatu, a scene that quickly went viral and raised questions.
As criticism mounted, Vindee addressed the controversy directly, acknowledging that he was never in contact with IShowSpeed or his team. He explained that the claims were part of a bold prank designed to prove that prank content is a legitimate and serious career, just like comedy or acting.
The prankster said he also wanted to silence accusations that his videos are scripted. By misleading the public on such a large scale, he aimed to demonstrate the difference between scripted content and spontaneous pranks. Vindee insisted that his past work has always been authentic and unscripted.
To make the stunt believable, he admitted to researching and gathering real information about IShowSpeed’s visit, which helped him maintain credibility throughout the prank. He revealed that only two close friends were aware of the plan before it was executed.
Reflecting on the reaction, Vindee said he was surprised by how widely Kenyans believed the story, noting that the response exceeded his expectations. While opinions remain divided, the prank has reignited debate about ethics, authenticity and creativity in Kenya’s digital content space.
