University of Nairobi students to stage a peaceful Demonstration

University of Nairobi students will today stage a mother of all demonstration to oppose the move by the university to double the fees.

According to the new proposal a medicine student will require 3.8millions to acquire a bachelors degree, engineering will cost 2.1 millions. An ordinary masters degree will cost ksh.600000 from ksh.275000.

Prof Kiama however said the move is not meant to punish students but to improve on service delivery, he said that the university is currently debt ridden and can undertake some of its functions.

University council chairlady Prof Julia Ojiambo last week announced restructuring of UoN leadership meant to reduce the wage bill, the six deputy vice Chancellor positions were abolished.

According to Angel Munyasa UNSA secretary general Chiromo chapter education is a right and should be offered at the lowest cost possible, she urged the government to double HELB loan instead of doubling fees.

Kenya Universities Students Organization (Kuso) chairman Antony Muchui Manyara asked uon administration to listen to students cry failure to which he will call for a national day and night demonstrations in all universities.
