Siaya Governor Excellency Cornell Rasanga held talks with the Korean Ambassador to Kenya His Excellency Younghan Choi on Friday 24th September 2021 at the Korean Embassy offices in Westlands.
The Governor was accompanied by the Siaya County Minister of Lands Hon. George Rubik and the Global Peace Foundation Kenya Country Director Mr. Daniel Juma Omondi.
In their discussion Governor Rasanga conveyed his gratitude to the Korean government for funding the design for Kanyaboli Water Project and encouraged them to follow through with the water project which will immensely benefit the people of Siaya. The Governor took the opportunity to invite Ambassador Choi to visit Siaya County in the near future.
Ambassador Choi promised to look into the Lake Kanyaboli Water Project whose design was funded by the Korea International Cooperative Agency (KOICA).
According to Minister George Rubik the Kanyaboli Water Project is expected to develop the water supply infrastructure to eradicate trekking for long distances by the residents in such of water. This is expected to help the residents in utilizing this time for other economic activities.
Other than the Water project, Ambassador Choi promised to share with the Siaya County Government educational scholarship opportunitues funded by the Korean government annually. Ambassador Choi also informed the Governor that KOICA offeres more than 40 scholarships for Kenyan public servants to study in Korea and encouraged Siaya public servants to apply.
