Political Activist Merceline odhiambo will on 29th July 2021 launch a community engagement in Ongaro KanyiKela ward in Homabay County to encourage women’s participation in political activities. The two day event organised in conjunction with the International Republucan Institute (IRI) will see hundreds of women from KanyiKela ward provided with civic education to enhance their participation in politics.
Merceline started thinking about this initiative way back in 2019 when she visited county assemblies and noted how elected women were few and nominated women were not being looked down upon.
Having worked for a political party before, Merceline noted the fear in women in taking up political spaces and this pushed her to start the conversation in her rural areas because that’s where most voters are.
Merceline has called on women from KanyiKela ward to turn up in large numbers and take advantage of the training.
