A 22-year old student was on Wednesday, 19 rescued by Police officers from a gang of six in Githurai 44 area.
The gang’ was spotted filching the student at the spot where the police busted them and shot one dead as five others managed to escape with gunshot injuries.
“John Ndegwa, student at Kiambu Institute of Science & Technology was accosted by a gang of six machete-wielding young men, who roughed him up thoroughly before stealing from him his mobile phone and Sh10,000 in cash.” Read the police report.

Ndegwa told police that he was taking a stroll along Thika Superhighway towards Githurai after he dropped his brother’s resume at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital for a job consideration when he was attacked by the crooks.
The incident happened at the Majengo area where small-time thugs attempt to burglarize residents and pedestrians along pathways.
“The thugs first asked the victim to buy them cigarettes and he responded by giving them Sh100. They then left him to enter a nearby food kiosk to have lunch, before ungratefully attacking him after he left the kiosk,” the police report further states.
“Police officers who were on patrol immediately rushed to the scene after the victim raised alarm, accosting the thugs who took flights to different directions. However, one thug drew a homemade pistol capable of firing and shot at the fast-approaching constables, who immediately dashed down and wasted no time in returning fire, fatally wounding the suspect believed to be the gang’s commander.”
Five suspects managed to escape with their bodies riddled with gunshot injuries.
