“People listen with their stomachs and not their ears” Says Dr. Leonard Akajo
An aspirant for Member of Parliament for Karachuonyo constituency Dr. Major Leonard Akajo has caused waves by doling one thousand shilling notes and a packet of maize floor to those who attend his campaign rallies.
Pictures of the giant aspirant who is blessed with a huge physical appearance has gone viral with his campaign slogan “People listen with their stomachs and not their ears”.
Dr. Akajo is a Kenyan American who lives in Durham North Carolina. He left Kenya in the 90s to study in the US and at some point enlisted in the US Army.
Akajo seeks to dethrone Hon. Andrew Adipo Okuome who is the current MP of the Karachuonyo which is one of the constituencies in Homabay county. Previous MPs include Hon. Phoebe Asiyo and Eng. James Rege.
The constituency has seven wards namely; Wang’chieng, Kendubay Town, Kanyaluo, Central Karachuonyo, North Karachuonyo, West Karachuonyo and Kibiri wards. There are twenty-three locations and fifty-nine sub locations. The constituency is currently represented by The electoral number is 247 and covers an area of approximately 441.20 square kilometers with a population of 178,686 people out of which 85,409 are males and 93,273 females (KNBS 2019).
It’s largely inhabited by the luo with some Kisii and Somali communities. Luhyas and Kikuyus found there through intermarriages and/or economical engagements. The constituency office is located at the Rachuonyo North sub county headquarters – Kamodi centre.
Other than Akajo and Hon. Okuome, notable possible aspirants for MP include Mr. Ceasor Asiyo who is a close aide of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Dr Akajo is the right person for Karachuonyo. He is progressive and seem to understand how people listen especially at this time when economy is biting big.
