Madagascar has re-instituted a fresh lockdown in the capital city of Antananarivo after new infections soared just two months after restrictions were eased in the country.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the Anamalanga region where the capital is situated is returning to full lockdown with no traffics allowed and a strict curfew until 20th July. According to the statement, only one person per household is allowed to go out into the street between 6:00 am (0400 GMT) and 12:00 pm (1000 GMT) with a suspension of court hearings.
The measures have been taken “because of the spread of the epidemic and the increase of COVID-19 cases,” it added. The country which used to record a dozen daily cases of covid 19 has seen a daily spike of 216 cases culminating of a total of 2,728 cases, including 29 deaths after a total of 24,000 tests by 5th July 2020.
