Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) workers in conjuction with their unions, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), Kenya Union of Nurses and Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels ,Education Institutions and Allied Workers ( KUDHEIHA) , on the 25th of September 2020 , went on a peaceful protest accusing the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC)of failing to review their salaries as proposed by the state corporations advisory committee in 2012 on parastatals.
The protest comes barely days after the healthcare workers issued a 7-day strike notice over failed salary reviews on the 21st of September 2020.In a letter addressed to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander, Mr. Rashid Yabuk, the health workers said operations in the hospital were to go on as usual and employees participating in the demonstrations were to adhere to the Coronavirus regulations.
KNH Referral hospital healthcare workers , according to the 2012 proposed salary reviews on parastatals ,were entitled to an increment on their salary scales ,being that the hospital was upgraded to a 7^A level hospital from a 3^B level hospital . The healthcare workers want salary reviews as approved by the state advisory committee on the 13th of September 2012 via a letter.
The SRC, however ,has to date not implemented the proposals saying the upgrades were only meant to upsize parastatal categories and did not include any salary reviews .
