Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo faces Eviction over House Rent arrears

Former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo and a Kisumu County Legislator are living on borrowed time in houses belonging to Kisumu County Government over unpaid rent, running into millions.

According to acting Kisumu City Manager, Abala Wanga, six notices had been issued against rent defaulters including the two leaders, without compliance.

“Some of them have not paid rent for up to six months, with their arrears summing to an estimated six million and yet they have ignored these notices. Some have court orders to vacate the premises if they can’t pay, ” Mr. Wanga said.

According to reliable sources the leaders are required to move out within a week.

The county legislator has been accused of having a debt totaling to 1.7 million shillings, while Jakoyo owes the county Sh. 876,000

On his part the former Member of Parliament denied the claims saying he has not stayed in the county house long enough to warrant such an amount in rent arrears.

Mr. Midiwo also added that he had not received any eviction notice from the county government, claiming he had a small misunderstanding with the officials over house repairs which he had amicably solved.

The county has sent out circulars to its tenants in Milimani Estate, Robert Ouko and Tom Mboya to vacate by November 30. Those with arrears have been issued with a grace period until Friday.
