CJ Martha Koome launches action plan against hate speech

Chief Justice Martha Koome has on 15th June 2022 launched the National action plan against Hate Speech in a ceremony held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Nairobi.

“Hate speech attend date anger and resentment always drop you down lower than it lifts you up” said the Chief Justice.

She reminded politicians that it’s their responsibility as leaders to self regulate. She said losers of electoral positions must not fan violence and emotions but live to fight another day.

She said the violence in 2007 was mainly caused by hate speech. She advised political leaders to avoid actions that would bring them into conflict with the law.

The action plan against hate speech have been developed by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission through the support of the UN office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect.
