Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati has said the media will be allowed to relay election results direct from polling stations.
Speaking at KICC on Saturday 9th July during an event organized by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) and Mkenya Daima Initiative, Chubakati said that the Commission had nothing to hide and that election results belong to the people of Kenya who deserved to know the results as declared at the polling station.
He gave the example of the US where the media are allowed to call election results and said the commission was eager to attain such a level of transparency in the 2022 polls.
The polls body Chairman said all efforts had made to ensure the Augus elections are free, fair and credible. “I stand here today to affirm that the August 9th Elections will be Credible, Free and Fair,” he said.
Chebukati said he was dismayed when a journalist asked him why the commission was involving the media in the transmission of results and reiterated that the media had a responsibility to inform Kenyans what was happening at the polling stations.
